解説
Overview
「RIVER」は¥$（Ye と Ty Dolla $ign）とYoung Thugによる楽曲。VULTURES 2の11曲目として、YZYレーベルより2024年8月3日にリリースされた。プロデューサーはYe、Ty Dolla $ign、Pi'erre Bourneら。コーラスにCharlie Wilson、Leon Bridges、The Inter Milan Ultras（Hooligans）が参加している。
楽曲はもともと「Big Boody Bitch」として知られるリークバージョンが存在し、正式リリース版では大幅に再構成された。タイトル「RIVER」はVerse 3の「Take me to the river」に由来し、洗礼・浄化・解放というテーマを体現している。Young Thugがストリートの享楽と成功を語る一方、YeはVerse 3でキリスト教的な祈りへと転換し、アウトロがゴスペル的な余韻で閉じる構成になっている。
リリース時、Young ThugはYSL RICO事件（2022年〜）により拘置中だった。コーラスの「Free Larry, free Young Thug」は彼自身への解放を求める叫びでもある。

Young Thug
ジョージア州アトランタ出身のラッパー・シンガー。YSL（Young Stoner Life）レーベルの創設者であり、独自のメロディックなフロウでヒップホップシーンに大きな影響を与えた。Yeとの直接的な共作は少ないが、YeはVULTURESラインウプ過程でYSLクルーへの共感を公言しており、Verse 2の「This one here for YSL」はYoung Thugとその仲間への直接的なエールである。本曲リリース時はYSL RICO事件で収監中だったが、Verse 1全体を担当している。
Charlie Wilson
オクラホマ州出身のR&Bシンガー。The Gap Bandのリードボーカルとして1970〜80年代に活躍。Yeとの関係は長く、「Bound 2」（2013）や「Blood on the Leaves」などKanyeの主要歌詞を彩る形で複数回登場してきた。本曲のアウトロでボーカルを担当している。
Leon Bridges
テキサス州フォートワース出身のシンガーソングライター。グラミー賞（Best Traditional R&B Performance）受賞。VULTURESプロジェクトへの参加は本曲が初めてとなるが、Yeが洗礼・信仰というテーマに共鳴するアーティストとして起用したと解釈できる。代表曲「River」（2015）が洗礼・赦しをテーマにした楽曲であり、本曲の「川」というイメージと直接共鳴している。
